Shader Writer / Programmer:
Primary Responsibilities:
• Design and write Render Man shaders and DSO's to create a photorealistic look for film.
• Designing and writing Surface, Light and Volume shaders from original algorithmic work or by modifying existing shaders and shader functions.
• Apply procedural shading and scripting techniques.
• Develop rendering tools for creatures, environments, props, and visual Effects.
• Works closely with Surfacing, Lighting, FX departments and RnD Programmers to ensure all necessary parameters and functionality are included in production shaders and DSOs.
• Translate artistic ability into technical applications.
• Provide shader support to the lighting team throughout production.
Experience and Skills:
• MS in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.
• Generic C++ programming is a must.
• High math skill level to read, understand and implement algorithms presented in Siggraph, IEEE and similar papers.
• Excellent understanding of Render Man’s Shading Language.
• Knowledge of MEL/Lua/Python a plus previous experience on implementing BRDFs and shaders for realistic surfaces is a major plus.
• Understanding of rendering strategies (scan line, ray casting, ray tracing etc.)
• Thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to shading,
lighting and rendering.
• Good understanding of the entire visual effects process, from shooting to
modeling to texturing, animation and lighting and rendering.
• Experience with HDRI, Global Illumination and SSS is a plus.
• Previous experience shading cloth, fur, feathers, water, FX (fire, smoke, dust etc)
and hard surfaces in a photorealistic fashion is a plus.
• Experience in feature film/broadcast visual effects production is a plus
• Good general computer skills, particularly with UNIX/Linux command line
interface is a plus.
• Knowledge of MEL/Lua/Python a plus.
• Mental ray programming experiences a plus.
